Funds donated to the Institute go to recruit and support graduate student training through educational and enrichment activities, such as travel to national meetings, seminar speakers, research competitions, and retreats with faculty members.
Donations may be made to either of the Institute's funds. Funds contributed to the General Fund are immediately available for use by the Institute, whereas funds contributed to the Boerma Endowment will help secure the Institute's future ability to recruit, train and retain outstanding graduate students.

This latter fund is named after Dr. Roger Boerma, who was a soybean breeder and Distinguished Research Professor at the University of Georgia. Over his 40-year career, he developed many popular soybean varieties and pioneered the use of modern breeding methodology, mentoring many students along the way.
